ENGINE

The heart of efficiency

Amid this sporty design, the brand new 1.6L THP 147kW (200 bhp) engine - also launched in the RCZ Coupé - plays a vital role in the 308 GTi's efficiency.

A novel combination of both THP (Twin-Scroll turbocharger and direct fuel injection) and VTi (variable intake valve lift and camshaft phasers) technologies, this engine, coupled with a and its six-speed manual gearbox, offers amazing results.

High pressure direct injection

GTi for Grand Touring Injection: direct injection makes it possible to combine increased power with low fuel consumption and fewer emissions. A high-pressure dual piston pump, mechanically driven, feeds the injectors through an inclined groove. The high-pressure injectors spray the fuel directly into the combustion chamber at a maximum pressure of 120 bar.
This means that the mixture is spread evenly throughout the chamber, improving combustion and thus increasing the engine's overall efficiency.

VTI technology

VTI variable valve and timing injection technology. 

This technology links a continuous variable valve timing system with a variable intake valve lift system, which makes it possible to gradually adjust the maximum stroke capacity of these valves according to the pressure applied to the accelerator pedal.
This combination improves a petrol engine's thermodynamic efficiency, whilst also significantly reducing its consumption and thus also CO2 emissions.

The twing-scroll turbocharger

With the 'Twin-Scroll', the cylinder gas ducts can be grouped into pairs within the exhaust manifold and the turbocharger. This configuration separates the exhaust gases and makes it possible to draw the best from their momentum to improve the engine's reactivity. Pressurisation then begins at 1000 rpm, reaching maximum torque from 1700 rpm.

Sound system technology

To improve your driving experience, we have paid particular attention to the 'melody of the engine'. The Sound System technology will allow you to enjoy the different engine harmonics through the stages of acceleration. Just like a musical instrument, a membrane vibrating in time with the engine intake creates a sound which is controlled and amplified via an acoustic conduit, yet still retaining the noise level across the long distance.

ROAD HOLDING

A clear expression of Peugeot's expertise to provide you with the utmost in driving pleasure, offering efficient and dynamic road handling combined with faultless stability whilst ensuring genuine everyday comfort. The 308 GTi benefits from first-class ground linkage: a pseudo-MacPherson type front axle and a cross member rear axle. Finally, the base of the 308 has been lowered by 10mm, also lowering the centre of gravity.Together, all of these elements ensure that the front suspension runs perfectly, providing precision and optimal efficiency and thus creating a highly pleasurable and extremely safe driving experience at all times.

Steering

The steering offers both remarkable precision and excellent feedback from the road, allowing you to take charge. The electro-hydraulic power steering (allocated 650 W of power) varies according to the speed of the vehicle, the speed with which the steering wheel is turned and the temperature of the power steering fluid. This allows the power being provided to be continuously adapted, and makes low-speed manoeuvres more simple.

Braking efficiency

To guarantee you the best possible braking in terms of both power and endurance, our front and rear ventilated discs are very large in size, measuring 340x30mm and 290x12mm respectively. ESP comes as standard, and consists of dynamic stability control (DSC), electronic brakeforce distribution (EBD) and emergency brake assist (EBA). The DSC, ABS (traction control) and EBA functions can be switched off simultaneously (ESP Off) to allow you to explore the vehicle's full capacity. ESP also integrates intelligent traction control, a sophisticated system which allows you to pull away and drive effectively on slippery surfaces (e.g. icy, snow-covered or wet). In these types of conditions, it automatically adapts its strategy by providing more or less traction to each of the front wheels.
