Peugeot unveils its Onyx supercar at the Paris Motor Show
- Concept Cars
Quasar, Proxima, Oxia, 907 ... Peugeot supercars have always thrilled children and adults alike. Once again, this year, the brand creates the dream with its 21st century supercar: Onyx. Shaped using raw materials innovatively, this supercar was designed by enthusiasts who have drawn their inspiration from the world of racing.
With its state-of-the-art silhouette... it fascinates at first sight.
Its ingenious bodywork captivates with its striking contrast of materials and colours. Its wings and doors were hand-carved by a master craftsman from a pure copper sheet. This mirror-polished metal is totally self-protecting and uses no tricks. Its aspect will change over time and create a patina effect. The Onyx is alive!
"The silhouette of the Onyx has been carefully and sensually sculpted, yet it is also vivacious and cutting-edge". Sandeep Bhambra, Onyx exterior designer
A high-performance supercar
The frame of the car is a revolutionary piece of design, developed with the expertise of Peugeot Sport and the Group's research and development teams. This monolithic carbon central structure comprises only 12 pieces. The ever-so resourceful HYbrid4 technology recovers the kinetic energy that is normally lost during braking. This energy, stored in lithium-ion batteries, is automatically restored during acceleration and boosts power by 80 hp. With less than 2 kg per horsepower, the Onyx attains optimal performances without impacting the purity and elegance of its style.
Revolutionary driving environment experience
The passenger compartment is bathed in natural, dazzling roof-to-floor light. Like the bodywork, it is material-efficient, incorporating only what is required for its pieces and their hold.
"We looked for materials fit for a supercar but in the end they imposed themselves by their obvious suitability. Carbon for high performance, copper and crystal for tradition, natural felt and paper that we handle everyday". Sophie Gazeau, Peugeot Colours & Materials Designer
Designed with compressed and stretched felt, the passenger compartment is a one-piece pod, without seams, without joins. It is a real cocoon, enveloping its occupants and fulfilling functions that were previously ensured by a range of fittings: soundproofing, flooring, high-display console, headlining, bucket seats. The console is a pure masterpiece that showcases craftsmanship expertise. The crystal object, created by a master glassblower, is actually the fragrance diffuser holder. The essence, the spirit of this supercar is cherished inside an internal envelope. The perfume, diffused through the compartment, recreates the osmosis of the materials used.
Onyx Concept Bike, an ultimately-efficient superbike
Drawing from Peugeot Cycles' experience in the field of competition, the teams returned to the brand's origins of speed and performance. Peugeot Cycles' designers drew their inspiration from the Onyx to create an ITT bike that propels the brand into the future with its state-of-the-art and high-performance style. The flexed and harmonious lines of the carbon unibody frame optimize the Onyx Concept Bike's aerodynamics. Absolutely nothing can spoil the ride!
Onyx Concept Scooter, a hybrid supertrike
Cities are changing but mobility solutions are always one step ahead. Peugeot's Onyx Scooter Concept proposes an original, revolutionary, 3-wheel alternative that switches from scooter to motorbike, from urban-style to sporty-style, to fit the rider's needs and desires.
Integrating the stylistic codes of the brand's automobiles, this 2-in-1 supertrike displays an athletic silhouette with sculptural lines and an extra-large 200/50 R17 rear wheel that radiates the spirit of hypersport bikes.
