HISTORY
A century of models
1987 : 405

Based on an extended 205 platform, the 405 was designed to take over from the 505. Voted Car of the Year in 1988, the 405 was front wheel drive, the first Peugeot of this type for this level in the range. Eventually, the elegance of its Pininfarina design needed a little updating. It underwent a slight restyle in 1992. Several versions of the four wheel drive transmission were available in 1989, on the MI16.The 405 T16 220 hp version followed in the footsteps of the 205 T16. The victories of the motorsport version in the Paris-Dakar rally and at Pikes Peak ensured its glory as a sports model. A major technical and commercial success, production of the 405 ended in 1997 after nearly 2.5 million vehicles had been made.
