HISTORY
A century of models
1985 : 309

A part of the Simca-Chrysler line, the 309 appeared as a very different type of Peugeot, which explains its designation, which places it outside of the standard numbering system for the range. Proposed at first as the 3-box version of the 205, it was to eventually become established as an entirely separate model to complete the Peugeot range. From these origins, it kept the door design it shared with the 205. In addition, the 309 was fitted with a large tailgate of an original design. It was to take a large number of transverse engines, the most impressive of which was fitted to the GTI version - the 1.9 litre 130 hp engine taken from the 205 - and, in 1990, the GTI 16 — a 16 valve 160 hp engine. The 309 was manufactured until 1993 at the Poissy factory.
