Design Contest

André Costa, Frankfurt

How do you feel being in Frankfurt?
I'm very happy to be here and to finally get to see the prototype, particularly since Frankfurt's exhibition is one of the biggest in Europe and has a great international reputation.

Why do you think you won?
I think one of the main reasons is that Moovie is an environmentally-friendly vehicle. People expect that more and more, particularly for urban cars. I also think that Moovie's strength is to be such an unconventional car, free of standards. It makes it fresh and innovative.

What is your favourite aspect of Moovie?
I'd say its doors, which are an integral part of the wheels. I also like the U-shape that normally sits underneath the lion on the radiator grille: it gives structure to the interior and links the front and back windscreens.

Do you think the car could be commercialised?
It's hard to know. The public's taste is so fickle... But if we think for a minute that Moovie does exist and that people can get used to something unconventional, then yes, I think the car could seduce a young, urban, predominantly female clientele that is after a simple, environmentally-friendly and good-looking vehicle. I actually think that we're heading towards simpler vehicles that will just be decorated with "classy" details.

What is it like seeing a life-size model of the car?
I'm very proud and really happy to be able to see it full-scale, particularly here in Frankfurt. It's encouraged me to pursue my work in this area.

Will you enter again in two years?
I don't know yet; it will depend on how I feel and what the contest theme is.
