Stefan Schulze's concept

How did you get to this project?
My idea was to go right back to Peugeot's logo: the 4002 takes the shape of the lion with its mane pulled back. I was also inspired by the characteristic radiator grille of the 1936 Peugeot 402 and I accentuated the retro aspect of the vehicle by using chromes and bi-coloured lacquered bodywork. It's the car's unusual architecture and original proportions that give it a futuristic look.
For an amateur designer, the 4002 was of a bit of a prowess, wasn't it?
I really didn't think I'd be able to compete with professional designers when I entered the contest. I tried to do my best by paying attention to the feasibility of the drawings and by using the brand's legacy. That's how my vision of a retro-futuristic Peugeot turned into the 4002. The Peugeot team then did a great job turning the concept into a real-life vehicle.
What did you think of the real-size model?
I got the chance to see it for the finishing touches before the official inauguration in Paris. It gave me the opportunity to talk with professional stylists from the Peugeot Style Centre. I really appreciated the prototype's accuracy: its proportions, silhouette, the 21-feet rims, the brake discs and shoes, the rear and front light mechanisms... Even the engine was done down to a T, with its 12 admission pipes visible through the rear grille. The final result is a very accurate translation of my drawings.
